The Red Raider Marching Band Jazz Bands
The Red Raider Marching Band was recently invited to participate in the 2015 Rome New Years Day Parade. In 2012 the band participated in 252nd New York St. Patrick's Day Parade where they marched down 5th Avenue performing for millions of people. The Red Raider Marching Band was also name Best Marching Unit in the Milwaukee St. Patrick's Day Parade in 2012.
The Red Raider Marching Band's 2014 competitive marching show this year was entitled "Motown Magic".
The Wauwatosa East High School Red Raider Marching Band performs regularly at area and regional marching competitions, including Germantown High School’s “Marching Band Madness”, the Cudahy High School Marching Invitational, Waukesha South "MarchFest" and the Wisconsin State Marching Band Championships.
Past Performances and Awards:
The Wauwatosa East High School Red Raider Marching Band performed by invitation of the Queen of England at the 2011 25th Anniversary London New Year’s Day Parade and Music Festival. More than 600,000 people watched the parade live on the streets of London, and an international television audience of 280 million people viewed the parade via the BBC broadcast. While in London, the East Wind Symphony and East Jazz Ensemble I performed to enthusiastic audiences at the prestigious Cadogan Hall.
The Red Raider Marching Band performed by invitation of the governments of Paris and Chantilly, France at the 2008/09 Paris Parade Festival. The East Bands were thrilled to be the only American band selected to represent the United States. As well as marching events in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower and in Chantilly, East concert and jazz groups performed at the American Cathedral in Paris. The Cathedral is a national monument.
The Wauwatosa East Red Raider Marching Band won the Best Musicianship Award at the 2009 City of Wauwatosa Independence Day Parade.
The Red Raider Marching Band performed by invitation of the Queen of England at the 2007 London New Year’s Day Parade, and were rated as one of the top three bands in the parade. East concert and jazz groups performed to standing ovations at Central Hall Westminster.
2013 marked the fourteenth appearance of the Red Raider Marching Band at the televised Milwaukee, Wisconsin Holiday Parade.
The Wauwatosa East High School Red Raider Marching Band performed before more than 2 million people live, in addition to a large television audience, as Wisconsin’s representative to the 2005 New York St. Patrick’s Day Parade. East concert and jazz groups also performed in New York, and at Temple University in Philadelphia during their 2005 East Coast Tour.
The Wauwatosa East Red Raider Marching Band performed by invitation at the inaugural Edinburgh, Scotland Easter Day Parade on Easter Sunday, 2003. The East Concert Bands and Jazz Ensemble I performed at the “Music for Edinburgh” Gala Concert Series while on tour in Scotland.

The Wauwatosa East Jazz Studies Program has hosted performances by the Northern Illinois University Jazz Ensemble for the past 14 years. Guest artists have included Larry Ridley, Randy Brecker, Steve Turre, Willie Pickens, Art Davis, Charles McPherson, Terell Stafford, Benny Golson, Wycliffe Gordon, and Carl Allen. The NIU band is under the direction of Professor Ronald Carter.
The Wauwatosa East Jazz Studies Program annually presents a series of clinics and workshops on jazz performance technique, jazz improvisation, and the interpretation of the music of Duke Ellington. Clinicians include Professors Reggie Thomas of Michigan State University, Rick Haydon of Southern Illinois University and Professor Ronald Carter, of Northern Illinois University; All of these guest artist/clinicians are also on the staff of Jazz At Lincoln Center’s “Essentially Ellington” program.
The Wauwatosa East Jazz Ensemble I records the music of Duke Ellington and are regular participants in the national “Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Ensemble Competition and Festival” sponsored by New York’s Jazz At Lincoln Center. Jazz Ensemble I is consistently ranked among the best bands in America through this festival of Duke Ellington’s music.
The East Bands annually present a clinic/concert appearance by the faculty jazz trio of the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music. All East Bands students participate in the jazz workshops presented by the trio.
In 2010 Wauwatosa East High School Jazz Ensemble I was selected one of 15 national finalists in the “Jazz At Lincoln Center ‘Essentially Ellington’ National High School Jazz Ensemble Competition”. 1550 competition packets were sent to schools throughout America and several foreign countries. Finalist bands were selected by blind audition. At the finals competition in New York this past May Jazz I gave a phenomenally swinging performance and received a standing ovation from the members of the other finalist ensembles.
